The coat of arms for Pope Francis

is nearly identical to the one he used as archbishop, notable for its simplicity. Following in the steps of Benedict XVI, he replaced the triple crown with a triple mitre, symbolizing the Pope's three missions to teach, govern and judge. Behind the mitre are the crossed keys of St. Peter, one gold and one silver, united by a red string. Published on Mar 19, 2013

Pope Benedict XVI: A Living Church in the Philippines

The Pope has said that only by relying on God is it possible to humanize society and rediscover the true destiny of all mankind. Speaking to the bishops of the Philippines at the end of their Ad Limina visit, Benedict XVI praised the vitality of the Church in the Philippines, the commitment of small ecclesial communities and lay organizations who are at the forefront of transmitting the Christian message to all of society. The Pope then stressed the importance of evangelization and the formation of young Christian families based on the indissolubility of marriage. Finally, he hoped that many young people would respond to the call to the priesthood and consecrated life. Uploaded on Feb 18, 2011.

Liturgy of the Hours - Divine Office - Canonical hours

Liturgy of the Hours (Latin: Liturgia Horarum) or Divine Office (Latin: Officium Divinum) or canonical hours, often referred to as the Breviary, is the official set of daily prayers prescribed by the Catholic Church to be recited by clergy, religious institutes, and the laity. ANGELUS (Orasyon in Tagalog)

The Angelus (Latin for "angel") is a devotion in memory of the Incarnation

The devotion was traditionally recited in Roman Catholic churches, convents, and monasteries three times daily: 6:00 am, noon, and 6:00 pm, many churches still follow the devotion, and some practice it at home. The Angelus is usually accompanied by the ringing of the Angelus bell, which is a call to prayer and to spread good-will to everyone on Earth

Virgen Delos Remedios also known as Nuestra Señora De Los Remedios

was first installed in the Malate Church by the Augustinian priests in 1624, which attracted many devotees. Young Filipino mothers recovering from childbirth or with sick children would come to pray for fast recovery. The practice became habitual through the passing of years and the image came to be known as the Virgin of Remedies and Patroness of Mothers and Children. Devotess would come to the church and offer gifts and prayers in thanksgiving for the favors they received.

HYMNS - Mobile applications (App)

Christian hymns are often written with special or seasonal themes and these are used on holy days such as Christmas, Easter and the Feast of All Saints, or during particular seasons such as Advent and Lent. Others are used to instill reverence to the Holy Bible or to celebrate Christian practices such as the eucharist or baptism. Some hymns praise or address individual saints, particularly the Blessed Virgin Mary; such hymns are particularly prevalent in Catholicism.

ANGELUS (Orasyon in Tagalog)

Remark 3 videos in the album

The Angelus (Latin for "angel") is a devotion in memory of the Incarnation

The devotion was traditionally recited in Roman Catholic churches, convents, and monasteries three times daily: 6:00 am, noon, and 6:00 pm, many churches still follow the devotion, and some practice it at home. The Angelus is usually accompanied by the ringing of the Angelus bell, which is a call to prayer and to spread good-will to everyone on Earth

Hindi Kita Malilimutan - Song for the dead

Every year, Filipinos gather with their families to pay respect to their departed loved ones. As with the other stages of life, death is traditionally commemorated through customs and rituals that usually involve music. In recent times, popular love songs are being sung or played during funerals as people say goodbye to their departed. Perhaps the most popular is Hindi Kita Malilimutan popularized by Basil Valdez and composed by Manoling Francisco, SJ in 1979, with lyrics based on the Book of Isaiah from the Old Testament.

Remark this is an album "St. Lucy (Santa Lucia)" in the album "Patrons & Patronesses - Etc." in the main-album "Filipino Saints, Orders, Monasteries, Abbeys, Convents, Congregations, Patrons & Patronesses - Etc."

Collection from around the world

There are two different origins of this tradition.

1.In Sicily, Italy, where it comes from the christianity and Lucia being a saint.

2. That's not the case in the northern part of the world e.g. Scandinavia here it comes from a much older pagan tradition that has to do with bringing light in the time of darkness, as some days of the year you might not even se the sun there, simply just celebrated/marked the darkest night of the year (the midwinter solstice).

It is later on that people started to celebrate the Saint Lucia when christianity became a state religion!

The Lucia night was also holy according to the catholic faith (Many northern countries are or were earlier catholic) so you can say there have been mixes through history, first it was the pagan traditions mixed with the catholic, and then it developed and became a unic celebration in many countries around the whole christian world - both catholic and protestant - that was more and more going towards the christian part of the tradition. and the songs were added quite lately and where taken from the original Italian song and translated into many languages.

Basbas - by Joaquin Gasgonia Palencia

Basbas explores the world of the Lenten rituals of rural Philippine Christendom

The Pasyon

is a verse narrative about the life and suffering of Jesus Christ. The verses are structured in five-line stanzas, with each line containing eight syllables. The pasyon is commonly sung during Holy Week, starting Holy Monday. The reading of the pasyon is a traditional religious practice in the Philippines and people gather around the reader of the pasyon to listen and reflect. It is seen by many of its practitioners as a vow or panata.

Easter Vigil: Papuri Sa Diyos - Tagalog for Glory to God in the Highest

This is the Roman Catholic 'Gloria' sung in Tagalog whose tune was composed by Philippine composer E. P. Hontiveros. The Choir singing is from Cavite City and this was the Gloria on Easter Vigil which proceded the seventh reading (Ezekiel) and preceded the Epistle (Romans). This was performed on the recently restored (2006) Pels & Sons four-manual pipe organ of 104 ranks at the Manila Cathedral, Basilica Minor of the Immaculate Conception, Intramuros, Manila. This is the largest pipe organ in all of Southeast Asia.
